Mr. Sophea Pheng – Operations Manager of Mango Cambodia
We are proud of the accomplishments of Sophea, Mango’s Operations Manager. He grew up in Tuol Pongro village, Kadal province, Kingdom of Cambodia and has two brothers and one sister. He is the oldest child in his family. His mother is a midwife and father was the village chief until 2007. He started primary school when he was 6 years old. In that generation, his family was very poor and faced food shortages (because the country had just emerged from the Khmer Rouge regime, so the people in the villages were very poor). His family did not have enough food and he had to work very hard to help. Read more…
In 1993, he was a student at Tuol Basan secondary school and took his final exam in 1995. There were only four students out of a hundred who passed the exam and he was one! He continued to study at High School and got his High School certificate, and then moved to live in Phnom Penh, getting his university degree in 2007, a BSc in IT.
Sophea is very happy in his work and always says ”I really enjoy my work at Mango Cambodia very much!!!”.

Mr. Sim Inn- Day security and gardener
Mr. Sim has experienced hardships like many of his generation in Cambodia. He grew up in the Chhouk district of Kompot province. He is the 9th child of ten children in his family, and has six sisters and 3 brothers. After he had passed his Secondary School exam (only one school in the country at that time), he came to study in Phnom Penh and passed the exam for the Bac I certificate in 1965. In 1967 (King Sihanouk generation), he became a police officer in Phnom Penh until the Lon Nol regime (1970 - 1975). When the Lon Nol regime collapsed under the Khmer Rouge, he moved from his home to the Kompot province. He spent 9 days walking from Phnom Penh to his homeland while ill from diseases. During the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979), he had to work very hard in the fields without enough food or sleep, and has harrowing stories of life at the time. Read more…
From 1979, he worked as a teacher at Chhouk secondary school and after two years, he was selected by the ministry of education to be a High School Teacher at Phnom Penh University. In 1996 he left his job at school and worked at FHI (FHI is a Christian NGO based in Kompot province). In 1999 he moved to Phnom Penh and worked as a Day Security and Gardener for a local western family. Since 2007 he has become a valued member of the team as a Day Security and Gardener for Mango Cambodia.

Mr.Sovanna Rith Yung- Night security
Mr. Sovanna Rith grew up in Prek Chhmosh village, Prey Veng province. His parents are farmers and he has two sisters and one brother. He is the youngest child in his family. In 1995 his parents sent him to study at Prek Tasor primary school and was also required to work for the family when he had free time. He finished his primary school in 2001 and studied at Toek Klang secondary school which was 6 km from his home. Each year he did not have adequate study time because of flooding blocking the journey, and the students could not complete the courses in Phnom Penh. Due to being also busy with work at his home he failed the final state exam in 2003. On this condition, his parents decided to restrict him to study again in the same class grade without having to work at home. He passed the final state exam of the secondary school in 2004 and continued to study at Toek Khlang High School. At that time his family was better off and his brother and sisters had jobs to support the family. Read more…

| GIVING SOMETHING BACK |

The magnificent Kingdom of Cambodia is still recovering from its recent tragic history. Tourism is playing a vital role in helping the country to overcome the difficulties of the past and move towards a bright and positive future.
We support local communities in all our destinations and donate learning materials to the schools we visit on every tour. We are also actively involved in various specific projects: sponsoring young street children through school; sponsoring and supporting an aspiring young Cambodian doctor through medical school and sponsoring our staff on various computer, business and management courses to help further their careers . We are planning in due course to open our own English Language school for street and other underprivileged children. |

| WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US |

Caroline Mathiason
(Bushey, UK)
It is very difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed our holiday with Mango. It was more than a holiday it was a glimpse of a country as you know it. You did so much for us to make it special – it was truly wonderful, it really was. It has enriched my understanding of how people live their lives and given me insight into the culture, the country and its generous and happy people. Thank you for enabling us such a privilege. |
